Book group 1 dates back to the beginning of Waterlooville U3A in 2006.To date we have enjoyed reading and dicussing well over a hundred books, drawn from a wide range of genres. We meet monthly and take it in turns to introduce the book, then everyone is keen to voice their thoughts and opinions. This is so successful that members contribute by emailing comments in if they are unable to attend a meeting. We all agree that being a member of the group has broadened our range of reading and increased our enjoyment of literature.

We have an annual Bring & Share Lunch with a Quiz which is usually based on the books we've read recently. As a group we also support the Rowans Hospice by donating our coffee money and also by donating any books that we don't wish to keep to the Rowan's shops.

Members of Book Group 1 enjoyed a celebratory lunch at The Rusty Cutter on 30th April 2018. The reason for our celebration? We have now read and discussed 100 novels! The group started in May 2006 and our first novel was “Brick Lane” by Monica Ali. The one hundredth book which we read earlier in April was “The Keeper of Lost Things” by Ruth Hogan. As always it produced a lively discussion between those who enjoyed it and had a positive response to it and those whose opinions were less favourable.
