U3A strollers were formed in August 2016 for those who like a more leisurely walk and easier terrain than those undertaken by the Strider group. Walks are between 3 and 4 miles and wherever possible on reasonably flat terrain with a minimum of obstacles such as stiles.

The group meet on every 1st and 3rd Friday of the month and details of the walk and where to meet are circulated in advance, the walk usually finishes where there are facilities for refreshments.

Any member of U3A is welcome to join, non members can join a walk as a “taster” session, thereafter they would need to join to be covered by U3A insurance.

Recent walks have been from Havant to Emsworth along the foreshore, a walk round the Stansted estate, a walk along the Hamble Rail Trail and through Victoria Country Park and a walk around Hundred Acres Woods.

Friday 6th March 2020

Hilsea Lido

LEADER: Billie Semmens

START: 10am at Hilsea Lido

DIRECTIONS: From the Hilsea roundabout head south to the small turnaround and hugging it return back towards the Hilsea roundabout. Move over to the left lane and after about a hundred yards enter the left lane that says slow. This is the lane for the Lido and then after the bus stops carefully turn left into the lane leading to the Lido. Proceed to the end where there is a car park next to the Blue Lagoon car park.

WALK: 3 miles along the new sea defences of the north western side of Portsmouth. Billie reports that the route planned has one flight of about 25 steps, it has handrails and is not too difficult although it is old and a bit uneven. There may be mud in places.

AFTERWARDS: The Blue Lagoon café maybe open for coffee and light lunches; an alternative is the Coach and Horses hostelry, Hilsea.
