Quiz Winners Feb 2018 & May 2018

This group meets at one of the member's homes monthly where we enjoy listening to individual tracks from members' CD's. Not only are we all introduced to new tracks and musicians, it is also an opportunity to walk down "memory lane" and share experiences with the group by playing our own personal choices.

We are also fortunate enough to have one of our members who brings along his guitar, and plays and sings Country and Western music to us. A really relaxing group, where we feel comfortable enough in each other's company to sing along with the music! The time just whizzes by and we all leave with a big smile on our faces!

27th FEBRUARY 2020

Another great meeting was held, and it never fails to amaze me just how much great music is available on this great topic. The group really enjoyed listening to 18 fresh tracks, without any repeats. The only exception is perhaps a track we may have listened to, but.....performed by a different artist. Below is a record of the wonderful music which we enjoyed listening to. Interspersed with our music, we also enjoy having a chat about either the tracks or the artists. A happy way of spending a couple of hours!

NOVEMBER 2019

It was the group's last get together before Christmas, so we took the opportunity to choose an early selection of Christmas Country and Western Music. As the table below displays, the most popular artist was Johnny Cash! As the December meeting would occur on Boxing Day, it was decided unanimously that our next get together will be in January 2020. We also celebrated by having a break and enjoying some Christmas nibbles! We have had a really great year listening to lots of new Country and Western tracks and it continues to astound me that we keep coming up with new ones!

SEPTEMBER 2019

Our usual monthly gathering was again very much enjoyed by all members who attended and yet again, the majority of tracks played were new to usall. We are fast approaching the 400 tracks played mark, which is an incredible feat! Lots of laughter when our live musician played and sang this month's music. It is remarkable that new songs are introduced every month. Phenomenal memory comes into play and provides such entertainment. The group listened to two tracks of the same title for comparison of presentation which proved interesting. Monthly tracks are as follows:-

AUGUST 2019

Yet again, we met under rather warm circumstances but thanks to our hostess, we were able to sit comfortably and listen to some of our favourite tracks in the cool. We hold a collective record sheet and a personalised individual record which have been available since the group commenced, so are able to check that we aren't duplicating requests which are handy. Interestingly enough, duplication has only happened a couple of times, so we are still a fairly switched on group! We just enjoy ourselves! This month's tracks are listed for your interest. All artists and tracks with the exception of ONE, had never been listened to by the group!

JULY 2019

We really were a reduced group for the July meeting - which is an obvious sign that the summer months are with us and group members are enjoying early holidays. At the time of our meeting, we were experiencing the hottest temperatures the country has experienced, but cold drinks and breaks for refreshments saved the day! We enjoyed listening to a total of 21 tracks and as always, our keen members had been industrious in seeking out new artists and tracks for our enjoyment. Tracks listened to are noted below, with an average of 4 tracks each listened to! Thanks to everybody for an enjoyable morning.

MAY 2019

For the first time in a good few months, we had a full house and it was lovely to see everyone - a reflection that the warmer months have arrived and winter bugs are hopefully behind us! Surprisingly, we managed to listen to 24 tracks which meant that we personally had at least three tracks each, which is a generous helping AND amazingly with only one repeated track by the same artist! The last time this was played was in 2017, so it can be forgiven and it's obviously a favourite! Considering that we have now listened to well over 300 tracks since the group formed in 2017, there have been very few repeats. This never fails to surprise and nor do the track titles, which seem to cover a multitude of topics from sad to happy! Well done to the group members for their research!

APRIL 2019

For various reasons we were a bit thin on the ground this month – a very select group of FIVE – but that meant that we got to listen to more of our chosen tracks; as they say “every cloud has a silver lining”! In all we listened to 20 tracks – mostly positive lyrics this month (have you noticed that a lot of Country & Western music is very sad?) – and all performed by different artists. And, of course, there was plenty of time for a cuppa and chat along the way – all very sociable and good fun.

NOVEMBER 2018

As our group doesn't meet during December, we usually bring Christmas forward to November which means searching for Country and Western Christmas music - and there's lots of interesting tracks recorded by the stars. This month "Top of the Pops artist" was Johnny Cash. For those statistically minded - since our group was formed, we have listened to 325 tracks in total and surprisingly only on 14 occasions has there been
a repeat. Well done our group for all your research and interesting input!

OCTOBER 2018

Another gathering of Country & Western music lovers which was really very much enjoyed. We have nearly reached the 300 mark with the amount of tracks we have listened to since we started this group in April 2017. Along the way, we have had some repeats, which is inevitable. Even the Group Co-Ordinator has committed this "sin", and she keeps the list! So the other group members can be forgiven for duplication! Anyway, we are all good humoured enough to enjoy hearing old favourites again. A great way to spend a morning, listening and singing along! This month's playlist is below.

Weather-wise, it was extremely hot for our final session before we broke up until September! But in a nicely cooled room, we enjoyed listening to another Country and Western session, with some familiar artists and also some new performers.
Thanks to the group for their research and enthusiasm, our sessions continue to be relaxing and entertaining! We all look forward to coming back in September and starting the term anew. Although slightly down in strength this month with three members missing, there was no reduction in the variety of tracks and artists played. Conversations flowed as each track brought back memories for some or comparisons were made with different interpretations by other artists. Another very successful morning for the COUNTRY AND WESTERN GROUP. We have now listened to 206 tracks in the course of our first year with only 8 repeated tracks, which is fantastic! Our resident C & W musician has so far sung and played 18 different songs......don't know how you do it Malcolm for I would certainly forget the words! You never let us down. Our first meeting of 2018 was well attended and we were able to listen to 20 tracks during our two hour session.  So far we have listened to 144 tracks, which is phenomenal considering that the group started in April of last year.  Based over seven months (we didn't have a get together in August or December), it works out at an average of 20 tracks per meeting.  Quite amazing because we also find the time to have a chat, a cuppa and a biscuit (or two!).   ALSO  amazingly we have only repeated 8 tracks throughout this time!

Further research on line, revealed (via Wikipedia) that Rosanne Cash is Johnny Cash's eldest daughter and that Bobby Gentry and Montgomery Gentry are NOT related. (Eddie Montgomery and Troy Gentry). We listened and sang to the following tracks.....good fun and so relaxing!

Christmas Items II

Our very first meeting was on 6th April of this year and during the course of 7 get togethers (we didn't have a meeting in August), we have listened to a total of 124 tracks Quite incredible really....only on 5 occasions have their been repeats by the same artist!!!!

Our November meeting was our pre-Christmas get together when we enjoyed lots of country and western Christmas music. It was amazing what we were able to find and bring to the meeting! Many of the choices led to laughter and amazement at the enormous wealth of country and western Christmas music that
is available. We finished by enjoying lots of lovely nibbles! Below is a list of tracks which were played.

26th October, 2017 get together

Most of the usual “gang” were there this month, with the exception of two who were off gallivanting (separately!) elsewhere.  Although we missed our very special live performances, we managed to fit in quite a selection of tracks, including several as a tribute to Don Williams who died last month.  As always, there were plenty of reminiscences, chit chat as well as a cuppa and biccies.  Excellent company and a good time was had by all.

25th May 2017

We held our second meeting on Thursday, 25th May and again had a great couple of hours selecting tracks of our choice. One of our members brought along his ukulele and his guitar and sang two Country and
Music tracks for us - it was great! Live music made a refreshing change and he has a good singing voice
too! Thank for the contribution of "I Hear The Sound of Distant Drums" and "My Rifle, Pony and Me"! Two
hours passed too quickly! Below are the tracks played which brought back memories for lots of us.

Faron Young "It's Four In the Morning"

jimmy buffett "Margaritaville"

JJ Barrie "No Charge"

Crystal Gayle "Don't it make my brown eyes blue"

John Denver "I'd Rather Be a Cowboy"

Charlie Rich "The Most Beautiful Girl In The

World"

Marti Robbins "El Paso"

Marti Robbins "El Paso City"

Tennessee Ernie Ford "Shotgun Boogie"
