Quiz Winners May 2017

The Gardening Group is now (2019) in its third year. Our visits this year have been many and varied, ranging from the really interesting and vibrant Wicor School Community Garden to the elegant green slopes of Andy McIndoe’s garden at Sherfield English, where he shared his knowledge, expertise and passion for garden design, trees and shrubs with us. We had a very informative demonstration and practical session of rose pruning and training at Pocock’s Roses. As the group is so large now, we no longer meet in a fixed venue, but one of the meeting highlights this year was a very animated talk by two of the finalists in the 2014 Allotment Challenge. Stansted Park Garden Centre was the venue for a Q&A session with one of their plant experts. Our snowdrop and spring flower visit took place at The Down House, the garden of the Chairman of the Hampshire NGS. As a group, our gardening knowledge and expertise is diverse. Some of our members have very large plots, and others only medium/small spaces, but it is very interesting to learn how others develop and maintain their gardens, and their planting choices. There are some very experienced and knowledgeable gardeners in the group, and I am sure we will all benefit in the months to come.
